New KAU Center of Excellence in Climate Change Research Launched

In the presence of KAU vice presidents and deans of faculties, HE Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, KAU President, has launched a new KAU center of excellence in climate change research at a total budget of SR14 million.

Dr Adnan Hamza Zahid, KAU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, pointed out that the establishment of the center was attributable to its significance nationally, regionally and internationally and was in line with strenuous efforts made by KAU towards shifting into a research university.

He also confirmed that KAU had fully sponsored the center in implementation of the vision of King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, to take the initiative of supporting international climate change research.

 Dr Mansour Atiyya Al-Mazroui, director of the new center, gave a visual presentation to highlight the vision and mission of the center.

 He said that the center was aimed at being an outstanding international climate change research center, capable of keeping pace with latest climate change sciences, and which would provide support, advice and short-term and long-term plans and strategic programmes through the setting up of a comprehensive climate database to help conduct climate change studies and assess the impact of climate change on the environment and water resources.

 He also pointed out that the center was seeking to help public and private sector entities tackle climate change issues and face its future consequences.

 According to him, the center also strives to raise the public awareness of the climate change issues and to make new generations of researchers, equipped to conduct future climate change studies.
